WESTON
Begins Green Redevelopment for LEED®-Certified
Office in Concord, New Hampshire
CONCORD,
NH — January 14, 2009 — Representatives from Weston
Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®)
and Pro Con Construction, Inc. gathered December 16, 2008 for
a ceremony to kick off construction activities for WESTON’s new regional
headquarters. The building will be located at 45 Constitution Avenue,
in the Horseshoe Pond Redevelopment corridor. The team welcomed officials
from the City of Concord, the Environmental Protection Agency and the
New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services.
The State, the City
of Concord and the local community are all important stakeholders
in this project. Sustainable redevelopment of this property will
expand revitalization efforts within the Horseshoe Pond area, while
adding jobs and revenues for the City and regional companies. Citizens
Bank is providing construction financing for the project.
Mayor
Jim Bouley prefaced his comments with “welcome back”, signifying WESTON’s
return to Concord where they occupied office space from the late
1970s through 1996.
According to Patrick G.
McCann, WESTON President and CEO, “WESTON
successfully acquired the “Greenlands” property in December 2007 with
a conceptual redevelopment plan to create a highly efficient, multi-tenant
office complex. Revitalization of this Brownfield project into
a WESTON office is consistent with our company’s vision for living
our sustainability goals and making a difference in the communities
where we live and work.”
Site preparation and demolition of the blighted
structures was accomplished using an integrated waste management
plan with upwards of 95% of the materials being recycled or reused.
The site design, building and landscaping will complement the mill
area, feature drought-tolerant, native plantings to eliminate the
need for irrigation and a plentiful number of deciduous shade trees.
Preferred parking will be provided for alternative fuel vehicles. A
GreenGrid®vegetated roof system
figures prominently on the south side of the first story roof. Besides the obvious
aesthetic benefits, the roof will reduce the amount of impervious surface on
the site thereby reducing storm water runoff and lowering energy demand during
the summer months.
The building orientation and windows will capture
solar heat in the winter and cascade natural light throughout the
interior. By installing highly efficient, automated systems and sustainable
products and finishes, WESTON will achieve certification from the U.S.
Green Building Council under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED®) program. The LEED rating system provides
a nationally accepted set of standards for environmentally sustainable
building design, construction and operation.
According to Todd Walles,
VP and WESTON’s
Northeast Division Manager, “The new Concord office will be both an
attractive and inspiring workplace and one that will provide an
impressive confirmation of our commitment to sustainable development.”
