Project Narrative: One
of many GreenGrid® systems
to be installed in Chicago is on a Chicago
Transit Authority (CTA) substation along the
CTA’s
elevated Red Line. The new green roof is plainly
visible to the thousands of passengers who
ride the elevated train commuting to and from
downtown on a daily basis.
The 3,100 ft2 rooftop garden was installed using the GreenGrid® 4-inch modules pre-filled with a lightweight soil media and vegetation, and the GreenGrid® pavers. Installation was completed in 2 1/2 days, including placement of 318 GreenGrid® 4-inch modules and 128 GreenGrid® pavers.
Rooftop vegetation included Sedum spurium ‘Tricolor’,
Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum spurium ‘Fuldaglut’, and Festuca
amethystina ‘Superba’. Species
were aligned according to the rendering and
will be visible for years to come.
All work for the CTA rooftop garden was completed on time, within the allocated budget, and without any health and safety incidents. |
