SIN 563-4 – GreenGrid® Roofing System

  • This extremely design flexible, fully modular roof system is suited for both new and existing federal facilities to improve their energy and storm water discharge performance, contribute to a healthier environment, and meet the intent of various EO’s and federal greening initiatives for buildings. The zero-edge designed GreenGrid system is a visually appealing roof that arrives at the job site pre-vegetated and ready for installation. The modules, made of 100% pre-consumer recycled HMWPE, are placed directly on the existing roofing membrane or any other surface with sufficient load bearing capacity. The GreenGrid® system may also be installed at-grade in locations where owners desire a simple, flexible greening system. Because it is truly modular and maintains this feature through the life of the system, a GreenGrid® rooftop design can be easily adjusted and rearranged after installation to meet a change in stylistic preferences, planting schemes, or access the underlying roof, cleanly and easily for maintenance issues.

  • The modules come in three different depths. The 4.25-in. depth standard extensive system modules will support a mixture of sedums, grasses, and perennials weigh approximately 26 to 30 lbs. per sq. ft. (at maximum water holding capacity). The 6-in. depth semi-intensive modules will support a wider range of grasses, sedums and wildflowers, and weigh approximately 39 to 44 lbs. per sq. ft. (at maximum water holding capacity). The 8-in. depth intensive system modules will support a large variety of ornamental perennials and shrubs, and weigh approximately 52 to 58 lbs. per sq. ft. (at maximum water holding capacity). The modules are available in 2 ft. x 2 ft. square dimension, which are easily customizable on the roof to fit various angle and curved perimeter designs and achieve a seamless aesthetic from day one. Plants are placed in the modules at the nursery, pre-grown to the desired vegetation coverage, and cared for until they are shipped to the job site for installation. Plant species are selected by staff horticulturists according to plant hardiness zone, building microclimate conditions, and green roof design.
